Alzheimer’s, an incurable disease which left my grandma’s memories defenseless as her identity faded. When viewing the piece, I wanted the left side of her face to be ripped, because just like knights holding a sword with their right hand and a shield with their left, my grandma failed to wield her sword (right) with only her left to shield her from the attacks against her memories.
