MIRROR OF HER TRUTH
(2020)
Materials: Fabric, mirror, makeup, fan, camera, and Photoshop
This piece was a response to the struggle with self-acceptance and self-love that many women and girls continue to face. We all have struggles that leave scars, some even think that we become flawed. In order to reach true self-acceptance one must free oneself from the need to follow norms and find the courage to “look in the mirror” and, unconditionally, embrace her uniqueness… “flaws” and all. Therefore, the mirror, as a carrier of truth, is used here to reflect the real "version" of the subject. However, still unable to reclaim that version of the truth, the subject is seen looking away from her own reflection.
