This work addresses the influences of money entrenching fossil fuel at the expense of climate change. The fossil fuel industry is a major contributor to the warming ocean temperatures that endanger the health of coral reefs. Coral reefs are home to 25% of the ocean’s fish. Death of coral reefs has a consequential impact on coastal communities, such as developing countries that depend on wild-caught fish for income and sustenance.

The money hand represents the profit-centered fossil fuel companies. The chain alludes to humanity’s bound dependency on fossil fuel. The hand and chain’s position is modeled after the walking beam of an oil pumpjack. The fishbones suggest the declining fish population. The title suggests the fact that fossil fuels harm the marine ecosystem but large corporations choose to ignore it for profit’s sake.
